Project Objective

The objective of this project was to create an educational app that spreads awareness and knowledge through Augmented Reality (AR) to those who want to learn more about Indigenous cultures and histories. Within the app, the user must walk to a certain location that can be found on a map given to them. Once the user reaches this location, they are able to view information on Indigenous histories and culture with the Augmented Reality feature. Once the information is unlocked, the user is also able to go back and re-read the information at any time.

Low-Fidelity Prototype

We created our Low-Fidelity Prototype on Figma where we created a wireframe for the users to navigate through. We decided to use Figma for our low-fidelity prototype as it allowed my group to collaborate on one document from different locations during the available time. Figma also allowed my group to quickly send out the prototype to participants in order to collect our research on time.

Testing Method 1: Survey

To create the high-fidelity prototype, there were two methods used to gain information on what users want in the final design. The first method of user testing used was a survey. We asked participants to answer questions in a survey while reviewing our low-fidelity design. The questions consisted of difficulty ratings, features they enjoyed, features they want to see in the final design, features they dislike, and their overall thoughts on this prototype.

Testing Method 2: Task Analysis

We asked five people to participate in doing four tasks within our medium-fidelity prototype that was created on Adobe XD. We focused on three usability metrics; Time on Task, Direct Success, and Error Rate.  While each participant went through these tasks, we monitored them closely to collect data on where users were struggling, and which tasks had direct success. At the beginning of each task, we asked users to start at the main page. For the first task, we had users navigate their way through the app to find which story they want to watch. In our second task, we asked users to navigate through the app to view their profiles. For our third task, we asked users to navigate through the app to access external Indigenous resources. For the last task, we asked users to navigate through the app to browse nearby locations.
